I’ve always felt that headshots alone are limiting for an actor. Or at least, I feel they have been for me. Acting is a full length industry, and we’re always told to have a headshot that represents YOU, as you walk in the room. I completely agree with this, but headshots can only do so much, and often give absolutely no indication of what we look like, neck down. This is where showreels come in, sure, but it doesn’t do any harm to also have some natural, lifestyle-type photos in the mix.
At the beginning of this year, I started looking for photographers to collaborate with and Anna Felicia photography popped up in my instagram search. I knew the kind of photo vibe I was looking for, but had no idea how to describe it – so I assume the instagram algorithm just secretly knew what I wanted, because it’s magic, and showed me her feed.
That and I’m particularly susceptible to words that sound like ‘Alicia’.
But seriously, this gal’s page popped up and I was like, THAT’S IT!
Felicia manages to create commercial photos which have an effortlessly natural feel. She’s very much a ‘personality’ photographer (now an official term because I say so) in that she manages to capture the soul of whoever she’s photographing. And you might think that’s just being a photographer, but I’ve been on many a shoot where it just hasn’t worked. Me, my idea of me and THEIR idea of me, just wasn’t the same thing. And often you just don’t know that until the photos come back and you’re like, crap I can’t use these because they’re a lie.
Which can work if you’re selling something, but when you’re selling you, it’s a bit problematic.
When I looked through all the photos from my shoot with Felicia, I can honestly say, they were all me.
She just gets people. And she’s a brilliant photographer. Two separate things that when put together, produce good work. From acknowledging the importance of sitting down and getting a pre shoot coffee to gently guiding the set ups for maximum impact. I knew I was in safe hands from the get go, and I’m chuffed with what we created, this first time round.
I can’t recommend Anna Felicia Photography highly enough. But don’t take my word for it. Check out her photos for yourself 🙂
